Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

AutoCAD used a DOS based GUI. It could be used either directly from DOS by typing commands or from DOS using AutoCAD’s own DOS shell called “ACDSYS”. AutoCAD has since been replaced by AutoCAD LT, which was discontinued in 2018 and AutoCAD WS in 2019. AutoCAD WS is released as a cloud service and is much more accessible than the previously available desktop software.
AutoCAD was initially released for the MS-DOS, OS/2, Microsoft Windows, and Macintosh operating systems. However, it is still available for those platforms. In 1991, AutoCAD was replaced by AutoCAD LT, which is a simpler version of AutoCAD. In 2011, it was replaced by AutoCAD WS. It is the most user-friendly version of AutoCAD.
AutoCAD LT was discontinued in 2011. In 2019, Autodesk announced that AutoCAD WS was discontinued on January 24, 2019. It will become available as a cloud service in Spring 2019.
The first versions of AutoCAD used a Command language or an original programming language for the application’s user interface. In 1987, the Command language (ACDL) was replaced by SCADA Script and the original programming language was replaced by Microsoft BASIC. AutoCAD was first released in 1982 for the MS-DOS operating system. In 1991, it was replaced by AutoCAD LT, which is a simpler version of AutoCAD.
AutoCAD was discontinued on January 24, 2019 and replaced by AutoCAD WS. It is much more user-friendly than the previous versions. It is the latest version of AutoCAD.
In this article, we will learn how to install AutoCAD on a Windows PC. You can also use it on Mac and Linux OS.
How to install AutoCAD on Windows
The installation process of AutoCAD is pretty simple. You don’t need to download anything. The process is automated. The installation wizard, an AutoCAD cloud menu, will guide you through the installation process.
Steps to Install AutoCAD on Windows:
Autodesk offers AutoCAD software on a subscription basis. You can either buy the software by itself or you can buy a subscription with AutoCAD

Initially, Autodesk created a proprietary version of AutoLISP called Alias, which was licensed to third parties. For example, the contract between Autodesk and the first object exchange developers included a license for “Automation Development Tools”. Autodesk discontinued its efforts to develop and distribute its own Autodesk Alias products, and instead developed the scripting language Rascal, which is no longer related to the old Alias or AutoLISP APIs.
AutoCAD Product Key has strong built-in support for parametric and solid modeling, construction, rendering, and analysis. The user can add scripts, macros, buttons, dialogs, and model space objects. AutoCAD also supports Dynamic Input and Dynamic Input and Design Rule Automation. Other features include a review palette, AutoCAD’s DDA file format, the ability to project 3D models and the built-in function of project viewing. These tools are supported in both 2D and 3D, and used to create and manage drawings.
With the release of AutoCAD 2015, a new command line interface was introduced, which is a Unix (Linux and macOS) and MS-Windows (Cygwin) version of the application. This allows developers to interact with the application through a command line interface.
In addition to modeling and drafting tools, AutoCAD includes a variety of post-processing capabilities, such as a review palette, visual styles, blending, spline or parametric modeling, pen tool, and dimensioning. Objects may be created in and manipulated within the drawing area by using an input and design tool called AutoCAD’s Dynamic Input, which is modeled after the IBM Graphic Animate and other Windows application input methods. Additionally, the selection of layers, viewports, and filters can be easily changed while the drawing is being worked on.
To support what is often the most time-consuming part of the drafting process, many commands are provided to help with geometric editing, such as the ability to convert, move, trim, intersect, and clean geometry in a controlled manner. It also supports trigonometry calculations, geometric constraints, and boolean operations.
AutoCAD supports most of the standard file formats for architectural and engineering drawings, including DWG, DWF, PDF, DGN, and CXD.
In addition to DWG, AutoCAD also supports the older DGN and CXD formats

To create reusable functions in AutoCAD, you must first declare a macro. But what makes a macro reusable? Is it the ability to apply the same function to many objects? Or is it the ability to apply the function to a host of different objects? And in your daily work, do you use more than one function in the same drawing?
Today, you’ll learn how to declare and use macros so that you can create and reuse the same function with a single declaration. You’ll also learn how to customize the visual appearance of a function so that the same function can be applied to many objects.
Macros in AutoCAD
First, you must register a macro. If you’ve used the “Macro Command” menu option to create macros in previous versions of AutoCAD, you may not be aware that you can also register macros directly from the Drawing Ribbon.
Figure 1: Register a macro from the Drawing Ribbon.
To register a macro, select Register, and follow the onscreen prompts. Select the type of macro you want to register and enter its name. If you are creating a new macro, you must also indicate whether you’d like to enable or disable the macro (see Figure 2). If you want to use the macro in several drawings, you must add the drawings in which you want to use it. (See the “Applying the same function to a host of different objects” section for more information.)
Figure 2: Indicate whether you want to enable or disable the macro.
If you enable a macro, you can use its name to apply the function directly from the menu bar or the ribbon (see Figure 3). To remove a macro, select Register, and then click Clear.
Figure 3: Select the macro that you want to use.
Applying the same function to a host of different objects
To make your macros truly reusable, you must declare the function once, and then re-use the function in different drawings. Declaring a macro and applying it in a different drawing is easier than you may think. In fact, you can apply a function to a host of different objects in the same drawing by following this easy step-by
